Students from Caerphilly’s ACT Schools displayed their artistic skills after a unique collaboration with Team Collective Cymru
Caerphilly: Students at ACT Schools have really shown off their creativity and talent lately. They teamed up with Team Collective Cymru for a cool 12-week project.
This collaboration wrapped up with a special performance and the debut of a music video. It was a big deal for everyone involved!
ACT Schools focuses on alternative education for Key Stage 4 learners across South Wales. They wanted to engage and empower young people through this creative program.
The initiative kicked off with a live performance from musicians and artists, diving into contemporary styles like grime and rap. It was a fresh and exciting start!
Throughout the weeks, learners took part in workshops where they worked with mentors. They learned about video production, set design, lyric writing, and music recording.
At first, some students were a bit shy, but they really came into their own. With guidance, they wrote original songs and recorded them in professional studios.
Then came the big moment: their final showcase, which included a heartfelt live performance and the premiere of their music video, “Penny For Your Thoughts.”
Cei Edwards, a tutor, shared how the experience pushed students to reflect on themselves. He said, “Writing and performing can be vulnerable, but they embraced it, and we’ve seen some real talent and growth.”
One student, Harvey Liddicoat, called the project a turning point for him. He discovered he had talent with a guitar and gained confidence he didn’t know he had.
He mentioned, “Three weeks ago I wouldn’t have stood up and performed in front of everyone – but now I’ve done it.”
Lauren Evans, a youth learning mentor, added that this project helped students uncover hidden talents and build confidence. It opened doors to new opportunities they might not have experienced otherwise.
