Chesterton: Exciting news! Building work has kicked off for a new housing project. This is part of a £20 million regeneration effort in North Staffordshire. The project, called Silkworks, will create 43 new homes. These include one-bedroom apartments and two- and three-bedroom affordable homes for rent.

Aspire Housing is leading this project. Their executive director, Dan Gray, shared his enthusiasm. He said it’s fantastic to see work starting on this new development. This phase builds on the progress made since 2018 when they first met with residents to discuss housing improvements.

In 2022, they completed the first phase, adding nine new homes. Now, they’re excited to continue growing the Chesterton community with these 43 new affordable homes. Developer Keon Homes is on board to construct the Silkworks scheme. They’ve already started clearing the site for the new homes.

Matt Beckley, from Keon Homes, expressed his excitement too. He mentioned that it’s great to begin phase two of the project. This new development will include a mix of high-quality one-bedroom apartments and larger two- and three-bedroom homes. It’s a crucial step in providing affordable housing in the area.

The project has received funding from Homes England and the Newcastle Town Deal. It’s expected to be completed by early 2026, creating sustainable homes for local residents. Plans for the third phase are also in the works, with approvals already in place.
