Mason Jones, a vibrant teen from Barry, passed away just weeks after his 18th birthday, leaving behind a legacy of joy and love.
Barry: Mason Jones was a bright spark in everyone’s life. He had big dreams of becoming a DJ and was just starting an apprenticeship in a café after celebrating his 18th birthday on December 4. Sadly, just three days later, he fell into a coma and passed away on Christmas Eve.
His mom, Samantha, shared how Mason was the kind of person who always made others smile. He had a bubbly personality and loved playing jokes. Even with his health challenges, he never let anything bring him down.
Mason was born with Down syndrome and congenital heart disease, which led to several surgeries throughout his life. His mom recalled how he fought through pneumonia and other health issues but remained cheerful and friendly to everyone he met.
He was a student at Ysgol Y Deri, where he loved music and cooking. Mason had been helping in the school kitchen for two years and was excited about his future in a café. He even received a DJ setup for his birthday, which he was thrilled about.
Tragically, after being hospitalized on December 7, Mason was put into a medically induced coma and succumbed to multiple infections. His family is heartbroken, especially his two younger siblings, who are struggling to cope with the sudden loss.
Samantha described how Mason lived with his grandmother, who was his best friend. The family is still in shock, trying to process everything. Mason was loved by everyone in the community, always greeting people with a smile and a kind word.
As they plan his funeral, Samantha hopes to give Mason a send-off he would have loved, perhaps with a horse and carriage through their local town, where he enjoyed connecting with people. It’s a tough time for the family, but they cherish the joy Mason brought into their lives.
