Bristol residents will see a 4.99% council tax increase for the fifth year, impacting household budgets.
Bristol: Residents are facing a 4.99% rise in council tax again. This is the fifth year in a row. The city council’s budget includes the maximum increase allowed by the government without needing a local vote.
This means an extra £81.32 for Band B homes, which are the most common in Bristol. Band D families will pay £104.57 more. Last year, the council asked for public input on possible increases, ranging from zero to 15 percent.
Interestingly, many people wanted to see the highest increase. The survey asked about a core council tax rise and a separate charge for social care. Most respondents preferred no increase, but a good number supported a five percent hike.
For social care, 36% wanted to keep the charge the same. Meanwhile, 21% were okay with a two percent increase. Some even supported the maximum five percent increase.
More than half of the residents backed the proposed increases. If approved, the new rates will be set on February 3 and February 25. Here’s how much each band will increase:
Band A – up £69.72 to £1,466.80
Band B – up £81.32 to £1,711.30
Band C – up £92.95 to £1,955.70
Band D – up £104.57 to £2,200.20
Band E – up £127.82 to £2,689.20
Band F – up £151.04 to £3,178.10
Band G – up £174.28 to £3,667.10
Band H – up £209.14 to £4,400.50
These amounts reflect only Bristol City Council’s portion of the tax. The police and fire services will set their charges later.
