A bridge strike in Birmingham has shut down the Cross City Line for the third time this week, causing major commuter disruptions.
Birmingham: Another vehicle has hit a railway bridge, and it’s causing quite the mess. This time, it’s the Summer Road bridge in Erdington, and it’s the third incident this week.
The first strike happened around 10 AM, and just a couple of hours later, they confirmed it happened again. This has really thrown a wrench in the Cross City Line services, affecting routes to Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, and Lichfield.
West Midlands Railway took to social media to let everyone know about the second collision. They mentioned that the Cross City North is blocked again and that they’re working with National Express West Midlands for ticket acceptance.
To make matters worse, the bus services are also affected. The 28 and 96 buses are being diverted because Gravelly Lane, which connects to Summer Road, is closed. They’ve apologized for the inconvenience, but it’s a bit of a hassle for commuters.
This isn’t the first time this bridge has been hit. Just last Friday, it was struck, and a couple of months ago, a lorry driver was charged with drink-driving after hitting the same bridge. It’s becoming a bit of a trend!
