Bradley Stoke: A kebab van is making headlines after getting the green light to operate near a busy junction, even though some locals are worried about safety. Mehmet Isitmen, who runs Muzzy’s Kebabs, got the thumbs up from the council to set up on Woodlands Lane.

Despite six residents raising concerns, the South Gloucestershire Council licensing sub-committee approved his application. Interestingly, there were no objections from local authorities, which is a bit surprising given the worries from the community.

Mr. Isitmen wanted to serve customers from 5pm to 11pm, but the councillors decided to start him at 6pm instead. Neighbors voiced their fears about the narrow road and how it could be dangerous for a food van to be parked there.

They also mentioned worries about litter, noise, and bright lights disturbing their homes. One resident pointed out that there had been several accidents at that junction, which is right by a business park.

Another neighbor expressed their frustration in writing, saying they didn’t need more food vendors adding to the noise and chaos. They were shocked that the location was even considered suitable for a kebab van.

Concerns about the road being too narrow were echoed by others, especially during the day when parking makes it even tighter. They felt strongly that this van would disrupt their lives.

Mr. Isitmen, a father of three, told the panel he’s been in Bradley Stoke since 2007 without any complaints. He assured them that the van’s lights would face away from homes and that he wouldn’t be using a generator.

He’s looking to open this new spot to ease the crowd at his current location on Ash Ridge Road, which will still be open. He believes this new site is closer to many of his customers, and most will likely walk over instead of driving.
