An 11-year-old boy raped a younger child in a wooded area, causing lasting trauma
Cefn Coed: An 11-year-old boy sexually abused a younger child in a secluded area. The victim felt confused about his body and sexuality, according to court reports.
Daniel Hancox, now 26, manipulated the victim and forced sexual acts. The court noted the abuse had devastating effects on the victim’s emotional health. After years of suffering, the victim bravely reported the abuse.
During the trial, it was revealed that Hancox showed the victim pornography to normalize his actions. He raped the boy twice on a discarded mattress in the woods, where he had lured him.
Judge Paul Hobson stated that Hancox’s actions had profound effects on the victim. As an adult, the victim returned to the woods and found the same mattress. His father described him as being “past tears” and in a state of shock.
After reporting the abuse, Hancox was arrested. He faced multiple charges, including two counts of raping a boy under 13. The court acknowledged his previous good character.
In a statement, the victim shared his confusion about the abuse. He felt it was normalized behavior and struggled with his identity. He later realized he was not a willing participant and felt isolated.
The victim also mentioned trust issues and mental health struggles, including anxiety and PTSD. He felt that Hancox had “reprogrammed” his mind and expressed relief that the truth was finally acknowledged.
Hancox’s defense argued he was only 11 at the time and had not reoffended. The judge noted that if Hancox had been an adult, he would face a lengthy prison sentence.
Ultimately, Hancox received a two-year community order and must complete a 40-day rehabilitation program. He is also subject to sex offender notification requirements for five years and an indefinite restraining order.
