The Botanist in Coventry has closed suddenly, leaving staff and patrons shocked by the unexpected news and the reasons behind it
Coventry: So, The Botanist just shut its doors out of the blue, right? It turns out the place wasn’t making enough money. They closed up shop on January 6, and folks were pretty taken aback.
The owners, New World Trading Company, had already started a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) last October. This is basically a way for businesses to sort out their debts, and it got the thumbs up from over 95% of their creditors.
As part of this plan, they decided to close three locations, including The Botanist in Cathedral Lanes. What’s wild is that many staff members had no clue this was coming, according to a listing on Rightmove.
But the bosses at NWTC said that’s not true. They insisted that keeping their staff in the loop was super important. In a statement, they mentioned that employees were informed about the CVA last year and had regular updates through calls and meetings.
They explained, “We launched a CVA in October 2024, which was approved by more than 95% of all responding creditors. As part of the successful CVA process, a further three non-profitable sites closed on January 6, including The Botanist, Coventry.”
They also reassured everyone that they were doing their best to help staff find new positions at nearby venues if possible. Plus, they acknowledged that the property was listed for lease before the CVA wrapped up, but they said that was unrelated to their company.
It’s a tough situation, and they really empathize with the team members affected by this sudden change.
