Middlesbrough Football Club is teaming up with the council to enhance the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum and explore new opportunities
Councillor Graham Wilson had some questions about the future of the museum, especially regarding its current building and any potential demolition. He was curious about how they plan to fund a new facility, given the financial challenges ahead.
Councillor Theo Furness confirmed that Boro FC is the partner they’re working with. He mentioned that they’re keen to collaborate on several projects, including the museum. It’s a big deal since Captain Cook is such an important figure for the town.
Furness also noted that while they’re looking into building a new facility, they can’t guarantee anything just yet. They’re working on securing funding to keep the museum running in the meantime.
Earlier this year, there was talk about closing the museum due to budget cuts, but public outcry put that on hold. Now, they’re exploring new ways to operate and improve the museum experience.
The mayor chimed in, saying this partnership could kickstart some exciting conversations about the museum’s future. Plus, there’s been buzz about creating a new visitor experience to replace the current setup.
Middlesbrough Council hasn’t commented on the latest news, and Boro FC hasn’t responded either. But it seems like there’s a lot of potential for positive changes ahead!
