A Blyth man faces serious charges for possessing indecent images of children in court
Blyth: A man from Northumberland is in some serious trouble. Peter Bowery, 57, has been accused of having a stash of child sex abuse images. It’s a pretty heavy situation.
He’s said to have around 50 indecent photos of kids, including two that are classified as category A. Those are the worst of the worst, involving penetrative sexual activity. The allegations claim he downloaded these images over eight months, from March to November 2022.
Bowery appeared in South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court this week. He didn’t enter any pleas to three counts of making indecent photos of a child. There’s also a charge about possessing a prohibited image, which involves cartoons.
The prosecutor, Glenda Beck, laid out the case, mentioning the different categories of images he allegedly had. She pointed out that this case is too serious for a summary trial.
His defense lawyer, Stewart Hay, agreed with the magistrates that they couldn’t handle this case. Bowery was released on unconditional bail and is set to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on February 4.
