Residents express deep concerns over plans for 1,100 homes in Billericay
Billericay: So, there’s this big plan to build over 1,100 homes on greenbelt land in Billericay, and folks are really worried about it. At a recent council meeting, around 100 residents showed up to voice their concerns. They were hoping the council would scrap the whole idea, but it didn’t go their way.
The developers are promising to invest over £1.3 million in local infrastructure, and half of the new homes would be affordable. But Richard Moore, a local Tory councillor, pointed out that this is just one of many projects. He’s worried about the total number of homes that could pop up in Billericay, which could really change the area.
He mentioned that with all the other developments already approved or pending, we could see more than 1,100 new homes on what used to be greenbelt land. That’s a lot of change for a historic town like Billericay.
During the meeting, the crowd was pretty vocal, clapping and cheering for those who spoke against the plans. One resident raised safety concerns about the construction, especially at the Laindon Road end where the new road would cross paths. She felt there were too many hazards there.
Another resident, Greg McManus, shared his worries about the impact on the ancient woodland nearby. He stressed that the increase in people and traffic could really harm the area. Plus, he pointed out that Billericay doesn’t have the infrastructure to support all these new homes. It’s a lot to take in, and many locals are feeling pretty anxious about what this means for their community.
