Birmingham extends recycling centre hours to ease disruption from ongoing bin strikes
Birmingham: The city is facing some serious bin strikes, and it’s causing a bit of a mess. To help out, the council is extending the hours for recycling centres. This way, folks can still get rid of their rubbish even when the refuse workers are on strike.
The strikes kicked off on January 6 and are set to continue with more walkouts planned for January 14, 22, and 30. There are even more dates lined up in February, March, and April. The whole situation started after the union and the council couldn’t agree on pay.
To make things easier for residents, the council is stepping up. They’re planning to keep some recycling centres open longer, whether during the week or on weekends. It’s all about making sure people can still recycle their stuff.
Residents are encouraged to check the council’s website for the exact hours. Coun Majid Mahmood, who’s in charge of Environment and Transport, said they’re doing their best to support everyone during this tough time.
Starting January 13, places like Kings Norton, Perry Barr, and Tyseley will have those extended hours. Just remember to book a slot online to make sure you can get in. It’s all about keeping things running smoothly while the strikes are happening.
