A Birmingham rapper was convicted for a threatening video aimed at Tommy Robinson, sparking legal and public concern over its content
Birmingham: So, there’s this rapper named Omar Abdirizak, also known as Twista Cheese, who just got convicted for posting a pretty menacing video. In it, he swore at Tommy Robinson and made some gun gestures while shouting “pow, pow, pow.” Not exactly the best way to express yourself, right?
The whole thing blew up when Robinson shared the video on X, previously Twitter, asking the West Midlands Police to look into it. Abdirizak, who’s from Sparkbrook, claimed he didn’t mean any harm, but the court didn’t buy it. After a two-hour trial, he was found guilty of sending a menacing message.
The prosecutor pointed out that mentioning guns and artillery crossed the line from just free speech to something more serious. The video got over two million views, and Robinson claimed it was a threat against him, which definitely raised some eyebrows.
In court, Abdirizak insisted he wasn’t directly threatening Robinson. He said he made the video to promote his music and to “put Tommy Robinson in his place.” He even claimed that when he said “bam, bam, bam,” it was all just entertainment. But the judge wasn’t convinced.
During the trial, they played the video, and it showed Abdirizak wearing a hoodie, talking about being a Somali pirate and having “artillery.” The judge said that the way he gestured in the video could easily make people feel threatened, especially given the context of rising tensions at the time.
In the end, the judge found him guilty, saying the video’s meaning was clear and not just a music promo. Abdirizak is out on conditional bail for now, but he’ll be back in court for sentencing soon, along with some other charges related to cannabis and public order offenses. It’s a wild story, and it’s definitely not over yet!
