A family is devastated after a teen driver who killed their father is released from jail following a court appeal
Small Heath: A tragic incident unfolded when a teenager, Hamza Ahmad, was sentenced for killing a father-of-six in a road accident. The family was left reeling when he was released right after his sentencing.
Ahmad, just 19, was speeding in a 20mph zone when he struck 65-year-old Mohammad Uddin as he crossed the road. Uddin suffered severe head injuries and later died in the hospital.
In court, Ahmad received a six-month sentence and a driving ban, but just as he was about to be taken away, his lawyer announced an appeal. This twist meant he was allowed to leave the court on bail, shocking Uddin’s family.
Shahnaz Parvin, Uddin’s daughter, expressed her disbelief, saying it felt like the ground had been pulled from under them. She highlighted the emotional toll and the added burden of having to return to court.
The tragic accident happened on August 9, 2023, and CCTV footage showed the horrifying moment Uddin was hit. He had checked for traffic before crossing, but Ahmad was driving too fast to stop.
The prosecutor pointed out that if Ahmad had been driving slower, he could have avoided the collision altogether. Parvin shared her father’s legacy, describing him as a beloved figure in their community.
Despite Ahmad’s remorse and claims of guilt, the judge criticized his driving and emphasized the need for appropriate punishment. After the sentencing, Ahmad’s lawyer confirmed plans to appeal, arguing that the sentence might be too harsh.
Parvin and her family are left feeling that justice has not been served. They worry that a lenient sentence sends the wrong message about road safety and accountability.
Uddin’s youngest son, Hasan, voiced his disgust at the outcome, questioning how someone could take a life and still return to a normal life afterward. The family continues to seek justice for their beloved father.
