A Birmingham bakery faces hefty fines after inspectors found a significant mouse infestation over several months
The bakery got a bunch of notices from Birmingham City Council about the issues, but they didn’t bother to respond. Eventually, they were found guilty of nine food safety violations. The court hit them with an £8,000 fine and added costs on top of that, totaling over £12,000.
During the court hearing, the prosecutor mentioned that the health officers did a routine check and found the mice. They even had to shut the bakery down for a bit, but it reopened the next day. The bakery’s representative claimed they were trying to fix things, saying they hired pest control services monthly. But it seems like the mice just kept coming back.
The judge made it clear that health hazards like mouse droppings in food areas are taken very seriously. Arcadian Bakery has a year to pay off the fine, but it’s a tough lesson learned about keeping things clean and safe for customers.
