Anokhi, a cherished boutique in Bath, will close after 45 years, leaving fans heartbroken
Bath: A beloved fashion boutique in Bath is set to close after 45 years of serving the community. Anokhi, known for its unique clothing sourced from Jaipur, India, will shut its doors in March.
Luke Hardy, who helps run the family business, shared how much he values the friendships formed with customers. He said, “We’ve become very good friends with all these wonderful people.”
Over the years, Anokhi has attracted a glamorous clientele, including Oscar-winner Vanessa Redgrave and musician Jill Gabriel. Despite the fame, the shop remains a humble family-run business.
Founded by Luke’s sister Faith and her husband John, Anokhi started in India 60 years ago. Today, Luke’s nephew manages the supply side, keeping the family legacy alive.
The shop originally opened in Cambridge before moving to Bath in 1980. While the Bristol branch has closed, the Wells location will continue under new ownership.
Luke reminisced about the loyal customers in Bristol, saying, “A lot of people are going to miss us enormously.” Anokhi has also found success globally, with 27 shops in India and stockists in several countries.
Unfortunately, Luke has decided to close the shop for personal reasons. He emphasized the uniqueness of Anokhi, saying, “Anokhi means ‘unique’ in Hindi, so we’ve tried to be true to that.”
While there’s no exact closing date yet, Anokhi is expected to close sometime in March. The boutique is open Monday to Saturday on Saracen Street from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm.
