Mason Jones, an 18-year-old from Barry, tragically passed away on Christmas Eve after a battle with pneumonia and RSV
Barry: It’s such a heartbreaking story. Mason Jones, a beloved son, sadly passed away on Christmas Eve after being in a coma. Just weeks before, he was celebrating his 18th birthday with friends at a pub. It’s so tragic how quickly things changed.
He was taken to the Heath hospital in Cardiff and put into a medically induced coma. Mason had been battling severe pneumonia and RSV, and it was a tough fight for him. His aunt, Natasha Beechey, has started a fundraiser to honor him. She described Mason as a funny, loving, and inspiring young man.
The fundraiser is to help cover Mason’s funeral costs and give him the send-off he truly deserves. Natasha shared how much Mason brought joy to everyone around him with his bubbly personality. So far, they’ve raised £930 towards their £1,800 goal.
Mason was a student at Ysgol Y Deri Sixth Form in Penarth and had faced many challenges in his life, including three open-heart surgeries. Natasha mentioned how amazing it was to see him thrive despite everything he went through.
He had a passion for music and cooking, and he dreamed of becoming a DJ. The fundraiser aims to ease the financial burden on his family during this tough time. Natasha hopes the community can come together to support them and help relieve some of the stress they’re facing.
Our hearts go out to Mason’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
