Despite the cancellation of Hogmanay, a Belgian tourist found joy in Edinburgh by connecting with new friends to celebrate the New Year
Edinburgh: A Belgian tourist named Jessica had quite the adventure during her New Year’s trip. She was initially bummed when Hogmanay events got canceled. But she didn’t let that ruin her fun.
She had come to see the band Texas perform and even bought a ticket to enjoy the festivities. But as the cancellations rolled in, she thought she might end up spending New Year’s all alone.
While waiting for the Torchlight Procession, she got the news about the cancellations. It was a real letdown, especially since she had her torch ready to go.
Jessica recalled, “I was so excited, but then it felt like one disappointment after another.” She had seen the concert stage being set up just the day before, and it was hard to believe everything was falling apart.
She mentioned how surprising it was that no backup plans were in place, especially with Scotland’s unpredictable weather in December. “I mean, come on, it’s Scotland!” she laughed.
Even though she understood the safety concerns, she wished there had been some sort of countdown or celebration to mark the New Year. “I ended up alone on December 31, and that was a bit sad,” she said.
But Jessica wasn’t about to let that be the end of her story. She turned to social media and found two other women from France who were feeling just as let down.
