Bath residents are providing shelter and support to Ukrainian families escaping the ongoing conflict in their homeland
Bath: As the war in Ukraine rages on, the people of Bath are stepping up to help those in need. They’re not just offering shelter; they’re opening their hearts to families fleeing the chaos.
Wera Hobhouse, the local MP, and Luke Pollard, the Minister for the Armed Forces, recently expressed their gratitude to the community for welcoming Ukrainian families since the conflict began in 2022.
During a recent session in the House of Commons, Wera highlighted the strong connection between Bath and Oleksandriya, a city in Ukraine. This bond is more than just words; it’s about real support.
This year, Bath and North East Somerset Council made a Friendship Agreement with Oleksandriya to enhance medical support and cultural ties. It’s a beautiful gesture that shows how much we care.
Thanks to the national Homes for Ukraine scheme, many Bath residents have opened their homes. Over 350 Ukrainian guests have found refuge here, thanks to the kindness of locals.
Luke Pollard thanked Wera for her efforts and praised the people of Bath for their generosity. He also assured that the UK would continue to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom.
Wera expressed her pride in Bath’s commitment to Ukraine, whether through the Friendship Agreement or by providing homes. She emphasized that Bath stands firm in its support.
She also mentioned concerns about the new US government and its impact on Ukraine’s security. Wera is determined to keep advocating for the Ukrainian people and their right to defend themselves.
