Swansea: Non Evans, a well-known athlete, has been through a lot since a hit-and-run incident changed her life. It happened last September when she was biking near her home in Mumbles. An elderly driver hit her and then just drove off.

Non suffered serious injuries, including a complicated wrist fracture. The driver, an 87-year-old woman, was later found guilty in court for leaving the scene and not driving carefully.

In a chat with WalesOnline, Non opened up about how this accident has affected her life. She can’t work as a personal trainer anymore and struggles with everyday tasks. It’s been a tough road, and she’s even faced medical issues like sepsis.

She mentioned that her confidence has taken a big hit. Non, who has represented Wales in multiple sports, feels like she’s lost a part of herself. She can’t even open a tin or cut her food without help, which is a huge change for someone so active.

After her surgery, she noticed an infection and had to rush to the hospital again. Thankfully, they caught it early, but it’s just been one thing after another. Non said she’s still trying to keep fit, but it’s hard when her wrist is fused and she can’t do the things she used to love.

She’s also feeling the financial strain. Since the accident, she’s had to rely on Universal Credit and support from her family. Non is only able to take on a few clients now, focusing on gentle training, which is a far cry from her previous work.

Reflecting on the court case, she feels frustrated. The driver received a fine and a short driving ban, but Non believes the consequences should have been more serious. She’s been in touch with a solicitor to discuss her losses and the ongoing impact of her injuries.

Non’s story is a reminder of how quickly life can change. She’s determined to keep fighting, but it’s clear that this incident has left a lasting mark on her life.
