Tullamore: So, Jozef Puska, the guy who killed Ashling Murphy, is in prison and apparently putting on some weight. He’s also learning English, which is kind of surprising.
This guy, 34, brutally murdered Ashling while she was out for a jog three years ago. Now, he’s in the E Division of Midlands Prison, sharing space with some pretty serious offenders.
Word is, he’s been moved there because of the nature of his crime. They’re worried he might get attacked if he was in the general population. Can you believe that?
Puska doesn’t have a specific job but spends his days in prison school, doing art and woodwork, and sometimes cleaning. He’s even got a tutor to help him with English.
It’s wild to think he’s been in Ireland since 2013 but struggled with the language. During his trial, he needed a translator, which is just sad.
People say he’s changed a lot in prison. He’s gained weight and keeps his hair long and greasy. He’s hanging out with some of the worst offenders there, which is just crazy.
Despite all the evidence against him, he thinks he can appeal his conviction later this year. Talk about delusional!
Midlands Prison has some notorious inmates, but Puska is in a wing mostly filled with sex offenders. It’s a tough crowd, to say the least.
In November 2023, he was found guilty of Ashling’s murder, a crime that shocked everyone. He stabbed her 12 times in a random attack, which is just horrific.
During the trial, Ashling’s loved ones gave powerful statements. Her boyfriend, Ryan, was emotional, telling Puska he didn’t care what happened to him but that he would never harm another woman again.
Ashling’s mom, Kathleen, shared a heartbreaking story about their last conversation. She warned Ashling not to jog by the canal, but Ashling, being 23, brushed it off. It’s just so tragic.
As a parent, you want to protect your kids, but sometimes you can’t. Kathleen’s pain is just unimaginable.
