A man in Ashington has been sentenced after a brutal attack left his victim permanently disfigured
Ashington: So, there was this wild incident where a guy named Dean Ellis bit off part of another man’s ear. It all went down in a supported living place in Blyth.
The whole thing was caught on CCTV, and it was pretty gruesome. After he bit the ear, he actually threw it back at the guy! Can you believe that?
The attack happened back in April 2023, and the poor victim couldn’t get his ear reattached. Now he’s left with a permanent scar, which really messed with his confidence.
Ellis, who was already on bail for another crime, got into a fight with the victim. They were both living in the same place, and things escalated quickly. Punches were thrown, and then, out of nowhere, Ellis used his teeth.
The judge was pretty shocked by the whole thing. She said it was a brutal act, and the way he threw the severed ear was just adding insult to injury.
After the fight, Ellis even helped the victim by getting ice for the severed ear. But the damage was done. The victim said he used to be outgoing, but now he hides his ear and feels judged.
Ellis has a history of violence, with several past convictions. He ended up getting a suspended sentence and has to pay the victim some compensation. His lawyer claimed he acted in self-defense, but it sounds like there was a lot more going on.
