Shelley King departs Coronation Street after a decade, joining other recent exits amid budget cuts
Manchester: So, it looks like Shelley King is saying goodbye to Coronation Street after more than ten years. She’s played Yasmeen Metcalfe and has had some pretty intense storylines over the years.
She had a chat with the producers last year and decided it was time to move on and try something new. Her last scenes were filmed in December, and they’ll be on screen in early spring.
She’s not the only one leaving, though. A bunch of other stars, like Colson Smith and Sue Cleaver, have also announced their departures. Even Helen Worth’s character, Gail, left during the Christmas special after being on the show for 50 years!
During her time on the show, Shelley’s character went through some tough stuff, including being abused by her husband, Geoff, who met a dramatic end. Plus, she’s the grandmother-in-law of the first gay Muslim character on the show.
All these changes are happening as reports suggest that the budgets for both Coronation Street and Emmerdale are being cut. It’s a big shake-up for the show!
