Grimsby: Almost 200 drivers got hit with penalties for ignoring ‘Keep Clear’ signs outside schools in North East Lincolnshire this summer. It’s a big deal, right?

The council just released some data showing that they’re really cracking down with CCTV cameras. They’ve got twelve schools under watch now, which is pretty impressive.

A spokesperson from the council mentioned that school staff are seeing positive changes. They believe the enforcement is making school areas safer for kids. Between July and September, they processed 188 penalty charge notices, which is actually down from 236 in the previous three months.

At Welholme Academy, the drop in penalties was huge. They went from 278 notices last year to just 95 this year during the same period. That’s a 66% decrease!

The spokesperson added that the measures are working, and fewer parents are parking where they shouldn’t. The goal is to keep kids safe, and it looks like they’re on the right track.

They’ve even added cameras at three new schools recently, hoping to keep those areas safe too. Plus, two more schools just got their cameras installed.

Now, there are twelve schools with CCTV keeping an eye on those ‘Keep Clear’ markings. The council is also looking into adding cameras at new primary schools being built in Waltham and Scartho.

For the first two weeks, they give warnings to drivers before starting to issue penalties. After that, it’s a £70 fine, but it drops to £35 if you pay within 14 days. Not too shabby, right?
