A tenant evacuated from a Bodmin building says he warned the council about its dangerous state last year before it collapsed
Bodmin: So, there’s this tenant, Adam Brophy, who’s pretty upset. He’s been living in a flat that’s now been evacuated because part of the building fell down. He says he warned the Cornwall Council last year that it was in trouble, but no one listened. Can you believe that?
It all went down when some big chunks of masonry crashed onto the street. Firefighters had to come in and shut down the roads around the building, which is known as the “Round House.” It’s an old place, dating back to the 1700s, and now it’s a mess.
Adam’s been living there for seven years with his two cats and three snakes. He’s not allowed back in to check on them, which is stressing him out. He told CornwallLive that his cats are freaking out, and he’s worried about them. He just wants to get back home.
He mentioned that when builders were working next door, his flat started shaking, and cracks appeared. He even said, “My flat actually moved.” That’s wild! He feels like he was ignored when he raised concerns about the building’s safety.
Now, he’s stuck crashing on a friend’s sofa, which isn’t great for him or his pets. He’s worried about how long the repairs will take since it’s a Grade II listed building. Adam just wants to feel safe in his own home again.
The whole situation is now with National Highways and the Cornwall Council. They’ve got to figure out what to do next. It’s a tough spot for Adam, and he’s hoping for a better outcome.
