Stoke-on-Trent: A couple is heartbroken after their new puppy passed away just days after they brought her home. Alex King found Cassie, a four-month-old collie-cross, wandering the streets and adopted her from City Dogs Home.

After being taken to the shelter by a dog warden, Cassie was available for adoption since no one claimed her. But things took a turn when she started vomiting shortly after Alex brought her home. Tragically, she died five days later from parvovirus.

Alex, who’s 27, shared that he noticed Cassie wasn’t well and quickly contacted City Dogs Home. He took her to the vet, where they confirmed she had parvo, which can be deadly. He informed the shelter right away, and the vet advised them to quarantine the kennels.

While Alex understands that the shelter might not have known about Cassie’s condition, he feels frustrated. He mentioned that no home checks were done before he adopted her, which he thinks is unprofessional. They only asked for a photo of his garden, which could have been sent by anyone.

After losing Cassie, Alex reached out to Stoke-on-Trent City Council to raise awareness about parvovirus in the area. He admitted that he wasn’t ready to talk to anyone right after the loss.

StokeonTrentLive has reached out to City Dogs Home for a comment regarding this unfortunate situation.
