Amy Dowden expresses her desire for a family after battling cancer and freezing embryos, sharing her journey on a podcast.
Blackpool: So, Amy Dowden, the talented dancer from Strictly Come Dancing, recently opened up about wanting to start a family. After her tough battle with breast cancer, she froze five embryos, which is pretty amazing. She went through a mastectomy and chemotherapy but got the good news in February 2024 that she had no signs of the disease. She even jumped back into the dance competition in September, though she had to step back due to an injury.
Before starting her chemo, Amy learned she’d be thrown into menopause, so she decided to do an egg retrieval. This way, she and her husband, Ben, could have a shot at having kids in the future. She chatted about this on the What If? podcast with Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie, which was really heartfelt.
Amy said she’s all about saying yes to new experiences and cherishing time with her loved ones. She mentioned, “We would love a family, and we’ve got embryos.” It’s a hopeful situation, and she’s taking it one day at a time. Just last year, she was facing a lot, and her mom even told her how grateful she was that Amy is still here.
In February 2024, Amy returned to the dance floor with JB Gill from JLS. She also shared her fertility journey in a BBC documentary called Strictly Amy: Cancer And Me. The live tour is kicking off soon, and she’s excited to perform, even after having to pull out of the competition last November due to an injury that wasn’t related to her health issues.
It’s been quite a journey for her, especially since she found a lump in her breast just before her honeymoon. But Amy’s resilience is inspiring, and she’s looking forward to what the future holds.
