A Derby family joyfully reunites with their missing cat Luna after 15 months of searching and uncertainty
Derby: A family in Allestree is over the moon after finding their cat, Luna, who went missing for 15 months. Caroline Svitana, Luna’s owner, described the whole experience as a nightmare.
After Luna disappeared in September 2023, Caroline started leafleting the neighborhood and contacted the vet, but there were no leads. She even mentioned how their other cat, Star, was searching for her big sister.
They searched local woods and parks, and friends helped look for Luna too. Eventually, they had to face the sad reality that she might not come back.
Then, while on holiday in Copenhagen, Caroline got an email from a vet 12 miles away. She couldn’t call because her roaming wasn’t working, but a friend let her use their phone. The relief of hearing Luna was safe was overwhelming.
Luna had followed a couple home, who took her to the vet. Thanks to her microchip, the vet was able to contact Caroline. Now, Luna is back home, exploring and enjoying all the love again.
Caroline is so grateful to have her back and says Luna is starting to feel safe again. She even has some advice for other pet owners: never lose hope. Posting on social media and putting up flyers can really help.
A spokesperson from Petlog, a microchip database, emphasized the importance of microchipping pets. They’re thrilled Luna and her family are reunited and encourage all pet owners to keep their contact details updated.
Microchips are tiny but powerful, helping lost pets find their way back home. It’s now a legal requirement for all dogs and cats in the UK to be microchipped, so it’s a good idea to stay on top of that.
