Exciting plans for 123 new homes at Alexandra Dock have been submitted, showcasing a fresh vision for the area if approved.
Grimsby: The planning application for the Alexandra Dock housing project is in! It includes some cool visuals showing how the area could look if it gets the green light.
Back in September, the council teamed up with Keepmoat Homes to secure a build lease. They also landed £7.8 million in funding from the Government’s Towns Fund, which is part of a bigger deal for Greater Lincolnshire. Homes England is on board too!
They did some survey work on the site last autumn. The area, which is next to Fisherman’s Wharf and the River Freshney, is set to have 123 homes, including 20 apartments and three commercial spaces.
According to the planning documents from Keepmoat and IDPartnership, this development aims to bring 123 high-quality homes right into the heart of Grimsby, along with some nice landscaping and public spaces. They say it’ll create great links to the town center.
The homes will include a mix: 33 one-bedroom terraced houses, eight two-bedroom houses, 34 three-bedroom houses, and 28 four-bedroom houses, plus that block of 20 apartments. The four-bedroom houses will even face the River Freshney!
The apartment block will be four stories tall, located just after crossing the Garth Lane footbridge. It’ll have 14 two-bedroom and six one-bedroom apartments, with three commercial units on the ground floor. Check out the visuals below to see how the development will look compared to the current land!
Access to the new homes will be from Fisherman’s Wharf and Garth Lane. Each house will have its own parking space, plus there’ll be ten unallocated spots for the apartments and ten for visitors.
A planning document mentions the Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission (BBBBC), which advises the government on promoting high-quality design for new homes. They highlight two key principles that fit this project well.
These principles focus on creating mixed-use neighborhoods at a ‘gentle density’ and re-greening urban areas. The plan includes some lovely public landscaping too.
