Aimee Arran faced a tough pregnancy but is now celebrating her son Archie’s first Christmas after a life-saving procedure
Morriston: Aimee Arran was so excited when she found out she was pregnant earlier this year. She couldn’t wait to celebrate Christmas with her little one. But then, at 21 weeks, everything changed. Aimee and her partner, Seb Mallows, got some heartbreaking news that their baby was in serious trouble.
During a routine 20-week scan, doctors discovered that Aimee’s cervix had shortened. A week later, another scan showed it had gotten worse. Aimee was told she might have a late miscarriage. That’s a lot to take in, right?
To try to save the pregnancy, Aimee had to have an emergency cervical cerclage. It’s a procedure where they stitch the cervix closed to prevent a miscarriage, but it only had a 50% chance of working. Talk about nerve-wracking!
Luckily, the procedure was a success, and Aimee’s son, Archie, was born safely on October 26. She was supposed to have the stitch removed a couple of days before, but Archie had other plans and decided to come early.
Now, the family is enjoying their first Christmas together, feeling grateful for the amazing care they received at Singleton Hospital. Aimee and Seb are especially thankful to the staff who helped them through such a tough time.
Aimee praised sonographer Rebecca Kieft for spotting the issue early on, which made all the difference. She also had high praise for the doctors and midwives who took care of her. It’s so nice to hear someone share their positive experience, especially when there’s so much negativity around sometimes.
Aimee said, “Archie is doing great. I can’t imagine what would have happened without the incredible support I received. I’m forever grateful to Mrs. Dey and her team.” It’s a heartwarming story that reminds us of the importance of good healthcare and the joy of family.
