A new housing project in Huddersfield aims to build 57 affordable homes, fostering a sense of community while addressing local housing needs
Huddersfield: A housing developer is looking to create a “community for all” with plans for 57 new homes. The Thirteen Group has submitted a proposal for a piece of land on Main Avenue in Cowlersley. Right now, the planning application is still up in the air.
They’re currently gathering public feedback, which wraps up on February 21. Kirklees Council is expected to make a decision by April 17. The land is described as steep and covered in unmanaged grass, and they plan to improve access from Main Avenue and create a new road via Windsor Road.
The proposed homes will include a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom options, featuring both houses and apartments. The best part? All of them will be affordable, whether for sale or rent, and most will be two stories high.
However, there are some concerns. The Trees department at Kirklees Council has raised a “holding objection” because the design doesn’t seem to take existing trees into account. They’ve asked for more information before moving forward.
The developer’s supporting document emphasizes their goal of building a community that meets local needs. They want to create a high-quality residential area that blends well with the landscape while providing much-needed affordable housing.
