Birmingham: So, there’s this wild story about Rajbinder Kaur, a 55-year-old ex-bank worker. She got herself into some serious trouble for stealing around £50,000 from a charity called Sikh Youth UK. Can you believe it? She pretended to be clueless about money, trying to throw the police off her trail.

Kaur used the charity to fund her lifestyle and pay off her debts. She was raking in donations from events like a winter sleep-out and a football tournament back in 2018. But instead of using the money for good, she was transferring it to her own accounts to cover personal loans and even sending cash to family members.

To make things even trickier, she opened over 50 bank accounts! The police said she was trying to complicate the money trail. Her brother, Kaldip Singh Lehal, also got in trouble but received a suspended sentence.

After her sentencing, a police officer said Kaur tried to act all innocent about finances, even though she had bank experience. It’s just sad because the money was meant for good causes, and she was just stealing it.

In the end, Kaur was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, while her brother got a four-month suspended sentence and some community service. They were both arrested back in July 2019, and the whole thing has been a long investigation.

It’s a real shame that people like Kaur misuse charity funds. The charity was formed in 2016, but their application to become a registered charity was closed because they didn’t provide the info the Charity Commission needed. Just goes to show, you never know what’s happening behind the scenes.
