A massive illegal rave in Pontypool attracted over 300 attendees, prompting police intervention to disperse the crowd and manage the chaos
Pontypool: So, there was this huge illegal rave on New Year’s Eve, and it drew in around 300 people! Can you believe it? It all went down in some abandoned warehouses near Talywain.
The party kicked off around 11 PM on December 31st and went on until the early hours of January 1st. But, of course, the police showed up to break it up around 10 AM the next day.
They had a big presence there, with vans, cars, and even dogs. It was quite the scene! The rave had two main stages set up between the three warehouses, which is pretty wild.
After the police shut it down, the place was a total mess. Rubbish was everywhere, and the ground was covered in colorful party balloons. People were using those balloons to get high on laughing gas, which is just crazy.
There were also empty bottles and pill bags scattered around. The muddy ground was a result of all the foot traffic from the ravers, making it a real mess.
When the police arrived, local farmers were charging £20 to help tow cars out of the mud. Talk about a side hustle! They also mentioned that some folks use rental vans to haul speakers to avoid getting caught.
The police were on the lookout for anyone driving under the influence, too. They asked the community to steer clear of the area while they dealt with the situation.
Superintendent Stephen Drayton made it clear that they have the power to shut down these events to keep everyone safe. He said raves can really disrupt the neighborhood and pose risks to those attending.
They disconnected the power to the site and issued a notice for everyone to leave. It’s just a reminder that these kinds of gatherings won’t be tolerated.
