A major cannabis operation was found in South Shields, leading to two arrests and the seizure of over 2,000 plants worth £2 million
South Shields: So, there was this huge cannabis farm discovered, right? They found it after a police raid, and it’s worth a whopping £2 million! Can you believe that?
Northumbria Police and the North East Regional Crime Unit were on the case. They got a tip about some dodgy stuff happening on Commercial Road and decided to check it out.
On Monday morning, they rolled in with a whole team, including the Dog Section and the Firearms Support Unit. They even had to use a chainsaw to get through the gates. Talk about serious business!
Once inside, they found around 2,000 cannabis plants at different growth stages. That’s a lot of green! The potential street value? About £2 million. Just wild!
They arrested two guys, aged 43 and 45, on the spot for cannabis production. They’re facing charges and were set to appear in front of magistrates in South Tyneside.
Police are sticking around the place for a few days to wrap things up and safely dismantle the farm. Chief Inspector Phil Baker made it clear that this kind of crime isn’t welcome in the area.
He emphasized how these large operations can really mess with local communities and are often tied to serious crime. Nobody wants that kind of trouble nearby!
Phil also urged folks to keep reporting anything suspicious so they can jump on it quickly. It’s all about keeping the community safe, right?
