A £20,000 reward is being offered for information on a newborn baby found abandoned in a shopping bag in London
London: A year ago, a newborn baby was found abandoned in a shopping bag during freezing weather. They named her baby Elsa. Sadly, she’s not the only one; two other siblings were also left in the same area over the past seven years.
Police are still searching for Elsa’s parents and are worried about their well-being. To help, they’ve put out a £20,000 reward for any information. It all started on January 18 last year when someone spotted the baby wrapped in a towel inside a Boots shopping bag near Greenway and High Street South.
When they found her, she was less than an hour old. Thankfully, she was okay and taken to the hospital just to be safe. Now, she’s in proper care and doing well.
Detective Inspector Jamie Humm shared that they’ve been working hard to find Elsa’s parents. They’ve gone through over 450 hours of CCTV footage and even created a DNA profile of the mother. They believe the parents might have been living in the Plaistow or East Ham areas for the last six years.
He’s really concerned about the mother’s health and is asking the public for help. He thinks someone in the community might know about her pregnancies or have seen her around. If you have any info, even if it seems small, please reach out.
Thanks to the DNA work, police can quickly rule out anyone who isn’t connected. They’re also asking professionals in health, education, or charities to think back if they’ve encountered the mother without realizing it.
It’s great that the three babies involved are healthy, and the investigation is still going strong to find their parents. Crimestoppers is offering that £20,000 reward for any anonymous tips. You can contact them anytime through their website or call 0800 555 111. If you have any info, don’t hesitate to call the police at 101 or reach out on social media with the reference Operation Wolcott.
