19-Year-Old Woman Charged with Theft After Phone Stolen in Liverpool

Liverpool: So, there was this incident in the city centre where a woman had her phone stolen right out of her pocket. It happened near Williamson Square on a Sunday, January 5.

The police got a report about the theft and quickly jumped into action. They arrested a 19-year-old named Mirella Ion from Wavertree. She’s now facing charges for theft from a person.

Sergeant Craig Winstanley, who’s in charge of Operation Ghost, mentioned how seriously they take these crimes. Losing a phone can mean losing precious memories, like photos of family and friends.

To tackle this issue, the Neighbourhood Policing Team started Operation Ghost. They’re not just focusing on local offenders; they’re even tracking down suspects from other areas in the north west.

Constable Sam Downey added that they’ve seen a drop in these thefts over the years. They’ve also handed out mobile phone marking kits to help people protect their devices. They’re making it clear: pickpocketing won’t be tolerated in Liverpool city centre.
