Explore 15 captivating photos showcasing the rich history of Kirkby estate life
Kirkby: Back in the 1950s, people were moved from Liverpool’s inner city to new towns. This was part of a big project called ‘slum clearances.’ Families had to leave their homes as they were torn down, and they found new places to live.
New communities popped up quickly as folks of all ages started fresh lives on these estates. After some successful developments in places like Speke and Aintree, they thought about creating an industrial estate in Kirkby. Even though World War II slowed things down, Kirkby Industrial Estate eventually came to life.
The ECHO has shared some amazing old photos of Kirkby, taken from the 1950s to the 1990s, thanks to our archives at Mirrorpix. Some of these pictures show the early days when new homes were built in the 1950s.
Other snapshots capture the faces of people who have called Kirkby home over the years. It’s like taking a trip back in time, giving us a peek into the past and the community’s journey through the years. Check out the 15 rare photos in our gallery below.
