West Midlands: A driver thought he was having a blast speeding at 120mph on the M6, but he got a rude awakening. He was cruising in his Mercedes E-Class, probably feeling pretty smug, when he zipped past some sneaky speed cameras.

This all went down between junctions 7 and 8 near Great Barr. Now, he’s facing the music for his reckless joyride. It happened back in July, and believe it or not, that was the fastest speed recorded on the region’s roads last year. He was flying 50mph over the 70mph limit!

Thanks to a freedom of information request to West Midlands Police, we found out about this wild ride. If only the driver had known about those cameras, he might have thought twice before hitting such crazy speeds.

These cameras are notorious for catching speeders, snapping thousands of drivers each year. They’re usually tucked away on overhead gantries, making them hard to spot. If you’re not familiar with the area, you might not even know where they are.

Other speed demons have also been caught in the West Midlands. For instance, a VW Golf driver was clocked at 110mph at junction 6 of the M6 and faced prosecution too. There were also an Audi A5 and another VW Golf caught doing 108mph on different roads.

Even a BMW I4 was seen speeding at 107mph, and a Volvo S90 was snapped at 106mph on the M6. It seems like the roads are getting a bit too wild out there!
