Cardiff: It’s been a bit dreary lately, hasn’t it? The holidays are over, and the weather isn’t helping. But you know what? There’s still a lot to smile about. Sure, the news can feel heavy sometimes, but let’s not forget the good stuff happening around us.
There are amazing restaurants to try, beautiful walks to take, and some truly inspiring people doing incredible things. Let’s dive into some of the heartwarming stories from 2024 that really made us feel good.
First up, there’s Anne Hughes, a 71-year-old who had a little mishap at her local shop. While waiting for it to open, her coat got caught in the electric shutters, and she was lifted off the ground! Thankfully, a shopkeeper was there to help her down. Anne laughed it off, saying, “It could only happen to me.”
Then there’s Sharelle Gilley, a brave girl from Neath. After battling leukemia, she needed a bone marrow transplant, and her 10-year-old sister was a perfect match. Her sister’s reaction? “Yes, yes, yes, I want to, I’m going to save her.” Talk about sisterly love!
Martyn Price’s story is another one for the books. Diagnosed with leukemia, he needed a stem cell transplant. After a long search, he found a match in Sweden. In August 2024, he finally met his donor, Oscar, and it was a beautiful reunion.
And how about Chris Ellery? He went missing during a fishing trip, and a massive search was launched. The good news? He was found safe and sound in Ireland! He even set up a fundraising page for the RNLI to thank everyone who helped look for him.
In the face of flooding, Sabrina Butler, a firefighter, put her community first, even while her own home was affected. She worked tirelessly to help others, showing true heroism.
Let’s not forget Taylor Swift! After her concert in Cardiff, she made a generous donation to the local food bank, helping provide emergency food for nearly 1,000 people. What a superstar!
