A significant investment aims to enhance broadband access for thousands in Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire: So, there’s some exciting news! A £108.9 million contract has just been signed to boost broadband in south west Wales. This is part of the UK Government’s Project Gigabit initiative, which is all about getting better internet to everyone.
The deal with Openreach is set to bring gigabit-capable broadband to around 47,000 homes and businesses in mid and south Pembrokeshire. That’s a big deal for folks who’ve been struggling with slow internet.
Henry Tufnell, the local MP, is really pumped about this. He mentioned that this investment will help connect communities that often get overlooked by commercial providers. It’s all about making sure everyone has access to reliable internet, which is super important for economic growth.
Right now, only about 63% of the area has gigabit-capable coverage. Tufnell also encouraged anyone having issues with their broadband to reach out to his office. This project is a step towards closing the digital divide, making sure more people can enjoy advanced digital services.
The rollout is expected to kick off in 2025, with Openreach leading the charge to set up this high-speed broadband infrastructure alongside the government. Exciting times ahead for Pembrokeshire!
